It is hard to believe that the 3rd trimester is almost here. Students will learn about their choices tomorrow and have an opportunity to ask questions. They will likely pick their first and second choices on Wednesday. Please see below for more information.

CES Middle School Electives
Schedule and Descriptions
Trimester 3, 2024-2025
*Students must take two P.E. classes every trimester, one music or art per year and one health per year.
DESCRIPTIONS:
PE/Health--Mr. Lapham, Miss Norma (Health)
Two Hand Touch Football - The name says it all. Students will learn the basics of football and engage in two hand touch football games.
Indoor / Outdoor Fun - Capture the flag, dodgeball, kickball, you name it, we play it!
Competitive Games - If you like to play hard and compete against other students, sign up for this class. You will be expected to participate at a high intensity for the entire class.
Health / SEL - All MS students will have a trimester of Health/SEL Class. We will focus on nutrition, physical activity, alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, as well as social emotional well being.
Library--Mrs. Bolton
VREC/Outdoor Adventures: Our VREC student leaders wrote a mini-grant and were awarded $1,500. Students in this class will plan and carry out the project.
Green Mountain Mustangs
Students will design and carry out projects that serve our school, community and greater world.
Based on a Book
Students will explore books that have been turned into movies, vote on which to read and then watch the movie.
Graphic Design
We will explore Canva and create a focus on projects using Canva and continue work on the yearbook.
Robotics and Coding
Students will work in pairs or small groups to build and code Lego Spike Prime robots. If time allows, we will finish the trimester with outdoor STEM challenges.
Music--Mr. Viera
Band
This course offers students the opportunity to explore and develop their musical talents through the study and performance of various instruments in a band setting. Students will learn to read music, practice instrumental techniques, and collaborate with peers to perform a diverse repertoire of music.
Chorus
This course invites students to explore vocal music through group singing, learning techniques to improve their vocal range, tone, and harmony. Students will perform in various concerts and events.
Guitar
Ready to rock? Learn to play the guitar with fun, interactive lessons tailored just for you. From your favorite songs to pro techniques, we’ll get you shredding in no time!
Ukulele
Ukulele Elective Course! Designed for beginners and experienced players alike, this course teaches the basics of ukulele playing, including chords, strumming patterns, and simple melodies. You'll learn to play a variety of songs across different genres, all while developing your musical ear and rhythm.
Piano
Welcome to your piano journey! Remember, every great musician started just like you—one note at a time. Practice with patience and enjoy the process. Soon, you'll be playing beautiful melodies!
Art-–Mrs. Ashburner
Ceramics
Students will learn about different techniques when working with clay. Students will have the opportunity to create multiple ceramic pieces to be fired at our new district kiln located at Derby!
Art Studio- 2D
During the first few weeks of the trimester students will be introduced to multiple artists who specialize in different art styles. Students will practice and recreate those art styles using their own interpretation. During the last few weeks of class students will draft and create a final art piece with mediums of their choosing.

Wellness & Chess
Sharpen your mind, challenge your skills, and have fun at our Middle School Chess Club! Whether you're a beginner learning the basics or a pro perfecting your strategy, this club is for you.
Wellness & Cribbage - Students first will learn the rules of cribbage, Once students have a solid grasp of the game, they will begin playing competitively against other students.
Introduction to Food Service– Chef Toni, Ms. Jackie
Students will learn basic food service skills such as food safety, preparation, knife skills and how to use a variety of kitchen equipment. Students must follow food service expectations by having their hair covered, long pants and closed toe shoes. A weekly log is required.
Preschool– Ms. Liz
Students will observe and assist in the preschool classroom. A weekly log is required.
