CES Beginning of the Year Family Letter
August 4, 2025
Charleston Elementary Families,
I hope you were able to find joy this summer and make memories with your family and friends. I know many students attended Encore Summer Programming or summer services. Hopefully that proved to be a service to families as well as an exciting time for kids.
If you have been by the school, you likely have seen some of the facility changes that were accomplished throughout the summer. Thank you, Chris Perry for your hard work coordinating the services as well as getting our facility cleaned. The parking lot and sidewalks have been sealed and relined. Additionally, a new camera system has been installed as well as a blue light strobe. The blue light strobe will be active when we are in a lockdown or lockout situation. These lights are at the front door and the corner of the building by the modular. If you see the lights illuminated, please do not come to the front door as it will not be opened. Lastly, we are working on getting the dishwasher and water softener ordered and installed. In addition to the contracted services, Mr Perry has been busy scrubbing floors, painting picnic tables, and cleaning the building to get it ready for folks to return.
We have a few new folks at Charleston during the 2025-2026 school year. While some names are familiar, their role has shifted. Please help me in welcoming these folks into their new role:
Annsunee Swift–Math Intervention
Sara Rolfe–Building Based Sub
Ben Leskey–Farm to School
Sean Lucander–Grade ⅘ Humanities
Enclosed you will find the NCSU Academic Calendar for the 2025-2026 school year. Please note that we use a program called Parent Square to communicate. There is an app you can download to view the messages. Additionally, it will email, call, and text. I try to get a newsletter out each week to explain what has been happening at CES. Additionally, please be sure to complete the annual update to ensure we have the most recent contact information. Each year we have some families that do not update their contact information. This makes it very difficult to reach you if there is an emergency.
I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) throughout the upcoming year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach me directly. My email address is christopher.lawson@ncsuvt.org. The first day of school for kids is Wednesday, August 27th. Open house is on Thursday, August 28, from 5 to 6:30PM. See you then!
Respectfully,
Chris Lawson, Principal
